Summer Programs at the Abbey!

All Camps are led by experienced Abbey teachers and coaches.

Aftercare is available from 3-5pm.  $100/week if prepaid, and $25/day (billed later) if per day.

  • Study Skills for Middle & High School

    This one-week program is offered twice and will expose students to new strategies and techniques to get the most out of their daily study routine. Take a week this summer to develop the tools and habits that will serve you well all year long! Open to students entering Grades 6 and up.
    Offered July 15-19 & July 22-26/ 10:30-11:30AM / $300 per session
  • The Priory Players' Summer Theatre Camp

    There will be two summer theatre camps to choose from and each will have a performance at the end.
    Students will have the opportunity to participate in workshops focused on acting, stage combat, improv, theatre tech, costuming, auditioning, and solo/group performance. Students will put together a variety-show performance throughout the week that includes scenes from famous stage shows and movies, personal and famous monologues, stage-combat presentations, adaptations of classic plays, and even solo songs!  The week will include content from classic Greek and Shakespearean plays as well as modern plays and musicals!
    This is an excellent way to hone your skills and gain experience in the art of theatre. Be prepared to meet new friends, learn many new skills, and have lots of fun.
    This camp is open to students in middle and high school, and we encourage everyone to join!
    You may sign up for one or both sessions of camp, as both weeks will have different pieces and workshops included.

  • Abbey Boat Builders

    Open to students entering grades 6 and up.
    Students will build a hybrid plywood/lapstrake standup paddle board over the course of 15 three-hour sessions.  Using a Chesapeake Light Craft kit students will have all the pieces pre-cut and all the materials needed to build a pretty nifty Stand Up Paddleboard. The students will experience hands-on boat building work while acting as a team to complete their project that will be auctioned off at our Annual Gala!

  • Summer Art

    Open to students entering grades 6 and up.

    Drawing and Printmaking, 12:00 - 1:25 pm
    Learn the basics of drawing, watercolor, and printmaking in this condensed week-long workshop.  Techniques covered include basic line and shading methods, monochrome in watercolor, and linoleum printmaking.

    Ceramic Sculpture 1:30 - 3 pm
    This week-long workshop focuses on sculpting using 2 different mediums. The first material is clay which will be fired with a glaze finish. The second material introduced will be wood as students will create free standing sculptures.
     
    The instructor is our own Mr. Mendoza, who teaches multiple art classes to all grades here at St. Anselm’s.

  • Summer Music

    Music Appreciation
    Open to students entering grades 6 and up.

    Students will learn about music in a classroom environment through the chronological study of music history, theory, and listening. Emphasis will be placed upon the four Classical music periods, with an expansion into different genres of the 20th Century (including Jazz, Broadway, and Pop-Rock). Students will conclude the course with presentations on a music selection of their choice. 
    Offered Weekly June 17-July 26 / 9:30-10:25 AM /$150 per week ($120 for 4-day weeks)

    Chorus 12 - 1:25 PM (2-week sessions)
    Students will sing a diverse selection of repertoire according to age and vocal range. Prospective genres include Classical, traditional/folk, spirituals, and popular. The course concludes with an ensemble performance.  
    Offered July 1 - 12 (no classes July 4) and July 15 - 26 /$250 per session 

    Group Piano 1:30 - 3:00 PM (2-week sessions)
    Students will work through appropriate lesson books according to their proficiency level in the school's piano lab. Outside music is welcome with approval by the instructor. Each student will work at their own keyboard and receive individual coaching by the instructor. The course concludes with a class recital performance.

  • Remote-Controlled Robotics

    An exploration of remote-controlled robotics. Each week students will be building a different robot, testing one aspect of its performance, and then modifying the design to improve performance in that area. Open to students entering grades 6 and up. Students must register one week in advance of the class.

  • Math Skills

    Mr. Dean will teach two Math courses. One will focus on Arithmetic and Pre-Algebra, and the other on Pre-Algebra into Algebra 1. Open to students entering 6th grade and up.

  • English Enrichment

    This class combines applied practice in expository and creative writing with an intensive review of basic grammar. Grammar studies include sentence diagramming, writing projects include an introduction to the traditional five-paragraph essay, and creative writing includes free writing and poetry. Students may take just one week, but they may benefit from enrolling in multiple weeks as lessons build on each other throughout the summer. Class instructor Mr. Jonathan Vaile has been teaching English for over 20 years. Open to students entering grades 5 and up.

  • Latin Grammar Remediation

    This course is intended for students who have previously had difficulty in their Latin courses, or for students who are being exposed to Latin for the first time. Material will be geared towards pupils’ individual needs, with particular emphasis on first- and second-year Latin. Charles Jenney’s series of textbooks is used. The course instructor is St. Anselm’s teacher Mr. Adam Williams.  Open to students entering grades 6 and up.

Please note that the weeks of June 17 - 21 and July 1 - 5 are prorated as those weeks are four days instead of five days. The school is closed on Juneteenth (June 19) and the 4th of July.
